20 Essential Ideas to Help Create a Better Family — Part 4 of 4

5 Ideas to Help you Teach Correct Principles
Here is the last installment in my notes from Randall Wright’s class at Education Week this August. For the first three days, click 1, 2, and 3.
President David O McKay said, “No greater responsibility can rest upon any man, than to be a teacher of God’s children.” –October 1916 General Conference
President Harold B Lee said, “You are to teach the doctrines not so plainly that they can just understand, but so plainly that there can be no misunderstanding.”

More about me than you ever wanted to know…..
[29 Nov 2008 | No Comment | 1 views]

My friend, Safire, tagged me last week. Woohoo! Another one! It makes days like today easier for me. I don’t have to think about what I’m going to post. So here we go. Lots of questions about ME!
1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?My mom named me after a girl that she had babysat before she was married. She spent so much time with this little girl that she called my mom, her babysitter, Mom. My Mom’s first name is my middle name.2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU …

Was it the turkey?
[28 Nov 2008 | No Comment | 0 views]

I don’t know if it was the turkey or the CRAB that my kids ate last night, or simply the late night and another day off school, but the kids woke up in crabby moods today.
Reese was the first to wake me up–at 3:04am–because of a sore throat. I checked her throat….Surprise! Another red, lumpy-swollen throat and one more trip to the doctor this afternoon. Anybody want to make any bets about whether or not it will be case #6 (in the family) of strep this season?? Reese is …

Happy Thanksgiving!
[27 Nov 2008 | No Comment | 0 views]

The 24 lb turkey is in the oven, stuffed and seasoned. PB commented that it was the biggest turkey he’s ever lifted. He was worried that the oven rack would be able to handle it (can you see the rack sagging a little?!). It’s already making the house smell heavenly. When I was stuffing it, Reese commented that the turkey reminded her of my big belly. Oh boy. Just think of what my big belly will look like once I’ve eaten all this food!
The apple pie is cooked. I appreciate …

….A few of my favorite things. With a twist!
Kat, from Sunshine and Lemonade, a blog that I recently started following, posted a fun tag yesterday and I decided to play along. The idea is that you post 10 of your favorite things…..that start with a particular letter of the alphabet. Kat has “assigned” me the letter L. How fitting! One of my favorite letters!! These are in no particular order. This just happens to be the order in which the photos were loaded.
1) Literature and Libraries
I love to …

What’s on your Holiday playlist?
[25 Nov 2008 | No Comment | 0 views]

I turned on the radio today on the way to the bank and the library and the grocery store, and I heard one of my favorite radio Christmas songs (God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by the Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan). Love that song! So I started thinking…what are YOUR favorite Christmas songs?
Here is my all-time favorite Christmas song:Estrella de Luz (or, Star Bright, by Loren Wheelwright)
It still makes me teary every time I hear it. It is the ONLY piano song that I can still sit down and play …

Homecoming….and Mr. McFeely
[25 Nov 2008 | No Comment | 0 views]

Daddy’s home! The trade show in Florida was a big success. Yipee! And now we’re happy to have Daddy home. He brought a few treats home from Nana and Grandpap’s trips to Alaska, including a book about a Grandparent’s visit to Alaska. PB added his own, typical funny charm to the book, and they were all hooked. I had to include this picture because it also showed the banner that the kids and I worked on last night for his home coming.
One other exciting thing that PB brought home …

Monday Menu Planning
[24 Nov 2008 | No Comment | 0 views]

Over the weekend, I had an idea. Every Monday I am going to share the recipes/meals that I plan on cooking for the coming week. It will help motivate me to PLAN AHEAD and, well, I always love to hear what other people are eating and gather new recipes, too. I love to try new recipes, so I will make a little post-note after I’ve tried a new one to let you know what everyone thought about it. I added a LABELS section on the bottom of my sidebar that …

Day 3–5 Ideas to Help You Create a Gospel-centered Home
The third day of Randall Wright’s lecture on creating a better/stronger family was probably my favorite. He based his model of a good, successful home on the temple (how it looks and how it functions). Think about it! Even if you’re a member of another faith, these 5 points make so much sense! (Links to the first five, and the second 5 tips)
“To meet the difficulties that are coming it will be necessary for you to have a knowledge of the …

Picture Tag, 4X4
[23 Nov 2008 | No Comment | 0 views]

My friend, Claudia, tagged me–Wow! There are a lot of these blog tags going around, aren’t there? This one is the easiest yet, so I’m happy to play along.
Here are the rules:

Go to your photos and open the 4th folder.Post the 4th picture in your folder.Tag 4 more people.(Shouldn’t there be 4 rules?)
And on to the picture:
This is Nerds on her Baptism day–July 1, 2007. She is such a beautiful girl and certainly very photogenic. Looking at this picture makes me want to sneak into her bedroom while …
