Can we re-do today? Please?

It’s yesterday’s fault. I got way too much done on Tuesday. How often do I get to check off everything on my to-do list? (How often before this week have I made a to-do list? Hmm) Stellar, productive days are bound to be followed by mediocrity.

Today has been one of those days. First, my neighbor came over at 7:20 this morning to ask if our water was also brown. Brown water? Hadn’t noticed it yet…..but upon inspection, Yes. Brown. Great. I called the water company, and they were already on top of it, but not quick enough for me to get a shower.

I headed out to meet a friend at the Resource Center. And then back home, where Andrew insisted on a nap. Cool. Right? Yeah, except that he had diarrhea in his almost-asleep state. Eww. Yuck. Cleaning up messy pants and the floor…not fun. And guess what? He did it again a few minutes before dinner. He is fussy and I am cranky.

I got two Christmas packages today. Good, right? Except that one of them held home-grown and dried Anaheim and Chipotle peppers from my sister’s garden…..and a bunch of broken glass. Have you ever tried to clean up a cup of dried HOT hot peppers? I think I lost a few burned-off nose hairs in the process. By the end, my whole house smelled like peppers and I felt horrible for my sister’s ruined gift.

I didn’t finish half of my to-do list today. I got started on just about everything, but finished mostly nothing. Err!

The day was redeemed, I have to say, by tonight’s book club Christmas Party. There’s nothing like a get together with fabulous girlfriends and hours of gabbing and eating sweets. But getting there was a challenge. CandyMan was not able to get out of his meeting, which happened to be at the same time as the book club party, and so I broke into the Christmas cash and paid a neighbor girl to come over and babysit. My friends think I’m crazy for not letting KitKat babysit before her birthday next week, but I’m sticking with our decision and being a stickler about waiting. But that’s another story. I hate the fact that I had to pay a babysitter on a school night, but I was not about to miss book club. That’s important stuff! One night a month is all I ask for. I will not give it up!
