Seven Years Ago Today

Seven years ago today, I was sitting in a hospital bed holding my brand new baby girl. My 4th child, and 3rd daughter.

I had waited a long time for her. Not because I had trouble conceiving her, but because she had made her presence known from the first day I became a mother. She wanted to make sure I didn’t forget her. I knew her name. She was mine long before I held her in my arms 7 years ago.

Reese at seven years old

Today is Reese’s seventh birthday. CandyMan has been trying to convince her for weeks that she is too small to be 7, and that she’s going to have to be 6 again.

She’s not buying it.

If there’s nothing I’ve learned in the 7 years of Reese’s life it’s this:

She may be small, but she’s got a whole lot of spirit in her!

Let’s take a look back through the years…..

Reese was incredi-baby. She is 4 1/2 months old here. 4 1/2 months old!! Take a closer look. When most babies were laying on their backs staring up at the mobile, she was pulling HERSELF up to standing position on it. She was already crawling on all 4′s.

By her 1st birthday, she was running all over, talking, and causing great concern over at the doctor’s office. She was dangerously small, and had to go through tons of tests (including one time when she had to be put under while I was holding her…SO heartbreaking! And then, she wouldn’t come out of the anesthesia. SO scary!) The doctors were certain she had some sort of gastro-intestinal problems, and Celiac Disease (since it runs in the family) was the main suspicion.

Despite the doctor’s worries, I trusted that everything would be ok. She was very active (too active for her own good), very sharp, happy, and otherwise healthy. The tests all came back normal.

Here she is at 3. Our only child to stay blond this long. Still attached to her Lamby that Mom and Grandma bought her when she was a few days old. Smashingly adorable, with a personality to boot.

Today’s we’ll celebrate together by waking up early to open presents (before everyone rushes off to school). Necco is rumored to be making her a special breakfast. Reese and I will go out on a birthday lunch date, and might stop at a store to let her spend some of her birthday money from Grandma, Grandpa, Nana, and Grandpap.

Birthdays are happy days.

I love my little Reese.

She is adorable. Have a great day celebrating! Funny how mom’s feel about their kids like we have known them forever. I get that feeling sometimes but I just thought I was goofy. Guess not!

No, not goofy. I think it’s natural. Or maybe we’re all just goofy. Who knows?

What a sweetie! She sounds a lot like my son, who was an early walker and is also quite active.

Hope you all enjoy her special day!

    Happy Birthday, kiddo!
My Boo is tiny, also. She gets teased at school sometimes, so I tell her to say to those kids exactly what my mom told me to say: Dynamite comes in small packages.

When she was 4 months old and 12 pounds and crawling around on all fours, people looked at her like she was some kind of mutant! ;)

Reese sounds a lot like my Ellie–Third girl, made her presence known to us long before she was born, had trouble gaining weight, and great personality. Maybe they were friends. ;) Happy birthday to cute Reese!

How old is Ellie again? Sounds like they are kindred spirits!

My teen was the one who did the haircuts. Isn’t that crazy?

Ellie will be five in about a week and a half. KitKat was brave to try the haircuts without permission, but at least they turned out cute!
