On Wednesday, instead of the freezing rain and sleet we were supposed to get, we had near-50 degree temps and rain. The rain melted about half of the snow that had covered the ground for the last week. Yesterday, when I walked the kids to school, the road to the school was a river. Water was running down the path and no one was safe from getting wet.
I didn’t think about the consequences of overnight temperatures in the 20s until I got a message from the crossing guard, a neighbor of ours. AJ slipped and stumbled his way to school on the 2-inch-thick ice that covered the path this morning. And I had sent the kids to walk together while I stayed home. Oops.
I assisted on the walk home, and wouldn’t you know it? The kids thought that having their school path turned into an ice rink was just about the coolest thing ever. So cool that AJ convinced me to go back out.
I wore out long before he did.
Despite the dangers of slipping, it was quite an awesome sight.
PS – The walkways on actual school property are just fine. Salted and cleared. The icy paths are county responsibility.

You’re perfect. Actually, the red x appears so that you can delete or edit your own links. Nobody else sees the x.

Love the ice! That would be neat to play on the ice. I loved doing that as a kid. It was the closest I got to ice skating.
We had the rain here and it is raining today. It snowed all around us last night in other cities, but we are good. I am kinda glad about that cause I am ready for Spring.

The weather really has been absolutely nutso – we actually got 70 degree temps. We haven’t had much snow on the ground, but it’s crazy…and this is definitely the kind of weather that makes people sick. Nonetheless, looks like you guys had a great time!

Good Lord, I would break my neck walking on that! The kids need to wear a helmet just to walk to school! lol
But then, living in Florida, we don’t know much about walking on icy roads.
Great photos! Love the action shot of your son jumping in the air!

Those ice pictures are so interesting and cool (no pun intended). My favorite though is the one with AJ’s back to the camera and his footprints in the foreground. Such a sucker for a back shot of a kid.
P.S. I ALWAYS wear out faster than my kids. How am I getting that old?

Want to know something interesting? Those footprints were old. The snow has been iced over, so AJ was walking on top of the snow. I was heavy enough to make new footprints but not him. But when I saw him walking near the footprints, I saw the leading lines and HAD to take a dozen shots.
