When I found a piece of paper on the ground the other day, I bent to pick it up. It didn’t take me long to realize that it was not an ordinary piece of paper. That tiny piece of paper was folded perfectly into the shape of a crane. To put it into perspective, I had my son, the crane’s creator, hold it between two fingers – child’s fingers, the size of my pinky. I’m still in awe.

Oh, nobody lost the crane. My son (the 10 year old holding the bird) makes them all the time. This one was just particularly small.

I can’t imagine having fingers tiny enough to make a crane that size. I’ve always had chubby fingers. I remember in 3rd grade, my family had a 17 year old Japanese exchange student stay with us. Even though I was 8, I had bigger fingers than she did. But it was still fun to learn how to make origami with her.
