You KNOW I do a lot of laundry. It’s inevitable with 7 people in one household. I also talk about laundry a lot. Could be the fact that I often feel consumed by dirty clothes and smelly socks.
I was excited to try out Tide Coldwater a few months ago (I have always loved the scent of Tide detergent), and so when they called me up again about their new initiative to get more people to use cold water for their laundry, I was thrilled to share the message.

“This Earth Day, P&G is inviting consumers to take a load off of the energy grid and their wallets by making one simple change — washing laundry in cold water,” said Len Sauers, vice president of sustainability for P&G. “This campaign is our effort to work hand-in-hand with consumers to make continued progress toward our goal to convert 70% of all wash loads worldwide to cold by 2020.”
Take a look at these stats:
Switching to washing in cold water saves up to 80% of the energy used per load. For example, if an average household switched to cold water washing for one year, it would save enough energy to:
- Watch TV for 1,363 hours
- Charge an iPhone 4S 30,861 times
- Power an average new refrigerator for nearly 4 months
