I have a dirty little secret. I give you permission to laugh at me.

I am guilty of grabbing cereal boxes out of my neighbor’s recycling bins to rip off the Box Tops 4 Education. Yes, I am rather obsessed with collecting Box Tops, and my kids share my obsession. We rip and cut out Box Tops, collect them in a drawer in the kitchen, and then hand them in to the elementary school monthly. Most months, we give $2-$5 worth of Box Tops to the school. According to Boxtops4education.com, our elementary school has already collected $78.90 for the 2012-2013 school year. That may not sound like much, but it adds up so fast.

This week, I discovered something that I am over-the-top excited about (and of course I’m here to tell you about it…). I just discovered an app called Jingit, which gives me the chance not only to earn Box Tops, but lets me earn real money for interacting with brands. Here’s how Jingit works:

What is Jingit?

Jingit is tech start up company that allows great brands like General Mills to pay you cash for paying attention to them. You watch short ads and take quick surveys (most were just a few questions long) to earn money. Money is added to your Jingit account instantly.

For a limited time, your designated school will earn Box Tops 4 Education for your interaction on the app and on jingit.com. Jingit’s partnership with Box Tops 4 Education will be ending this Saturday, so hurry to download the app and then head to Walmart to earn those extra Box Tops ASAP.

Once you’ve earned some money, you can either add that cash to a reloadable Jingit Visa debit card to spend anywhere or buy music thrrough MusicMe (iPod/iTunes compatible) with your money. I love that the songs and albums are priced comparable to iTunes or Amazon music.

Signing up for Jingit is easy. All you need is an iPhone or Android phone and the ability to download the app. The app, of course, is free, and signing up is fast and simple.

Yesterday, I downloaded the app, played around with it a little, and then headed to Walmart to do a little shopping. With AJ as my helper, we checked in to Walmart on the app and then scanned products on the list. After each scan, I answered a few questions (usually 2-5) on the app and was immediately awarded cash. Many of the products, like the General Mills cereals and snacks,  also awarded my school extra Box Tops just for scanning them in the store.

By the end of the evening, after shopping and watching some video ads at home, I had earned just under $8.00. It may not be a ton of money, but it didn’t take me much time at all (maybe 30 minutes total). It’s definitely something that is worth a few extra minutes at the grocery store and at home while I’m sitting around.
