One of the best things about out of town visitors is the opportunity to be a tourist in my hometown…and I must say that I’ve got one of the best hometowns for touristy stuff. Last year, when my mother-in-law visited, we spent a day at the Smithsonian’s Museum of Natural History. This week, we were in the mood for the National Gallery of Art, so we headed down to Washington DC via the Metro and soaked in as much of it as we could before the kids came home from school.

There is so much more to be seen than can be seen in one day, that’s for sure.

This was one of my favorite pieces of art at the museum. This portrait was taller than me, looked as detailed as a photograph, and was created with millions of finger prints. Incredible!
