During Spring Break my family was invited to Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. We got a behind-the-scenes view of the animals, their trainers, and all of the talented performers at the circus. We were blown away. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Built to AMAZE!

This was the first time most of my kids had ever been to a circus. I don’t think any of them knew exactly what to expect. They were ALL blown away by how much fun the show was – nobody could stop raving about the show OR talking about it for days after we had experienced it.

One of the cool things that we got to do was talk with some of the people that work in the circus (you’d be amazed at how down-to-earth they all are, despite the awesomeness of their jobs!). Lots of people express concern about the care that the animals in the circus receive…and most particularly the elephants. The kids and I were all happy to learn that Ringling Brothers not only treats their animals well, but they are actively involved in projects like the Ringling’s Center for Elephant Conservation in Florida.

The Asian Elephant is one of the icons of the circus – and certainly one of the highlights of the show! – and Ringling Bros. understands the importance of taking care of these magnificent animals.

About the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Center for Elephant Conservation

The Center for Elephant Conservation was established in 1995. Located in central Florida, this 200-acre, state-of-the-art facility is dedicated to the conservation, breeding, and understanding of these amazing animals.

Why the CEC is important: Built on more than 144 years of experience and expertise of working with elephants and exotic animals, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Center for Elephant Conservation has become a global focal point for the study of Asian elephants. The CEC hosts researchers, academicians and conservationists to create new dialogue focused around animal care, conservation and health, and the exchange of knowledge about the Asian elephant – both in the Western Hemisphere and in their range countries.

I took hundreds of pictures throughout the 3 hours we were there – from the pre-show on the floor (definitely worth arriving early for!) to the clowns to the acrobatics (incredible). We can’t wait to go back again next time the circus is in town.

  1. It is odd for me to see animals in the circus. You rarely find that any more in the UK as public opinion really turned against the concept after a series of undercover programs that exposed how some unscrupulous companies treated them so badly. There was even legislation bought in to help safeguard the animals therefore most circus did away with wild animals as performers. it has been this way for many years now so I was really surprised to see these images. We just don’t have circus’ like this in the UK anymore
