Photography for Beginners
So, you’ve just got a camera and you’re more than eager to get out into the world and start taking snapshots of everything that interests you. But you’re not sure where to start. Perhaps you’ve not even bought the camera yet. Never fear! Photography is an art form and should be approached with careful planning.
First off, it’s best to take a look at the sort of photography you see yourself doing. Family photos, model photography, still life – whatever kind of project you have in mind when your lens cap comes off for the day, you’ve got to gear your photography kit towards it. A great camera is obviously ideal, but certain lenses and types of camera can make a big difference.
It’s tempting to just go for the good old digital SLR, but the price tag is pretty big in most cases, and it’s a serious investment, especially if you’re just getting into the medium. Perhaps consider starting out with something that won’t break the back – modern cameras have competitive resolutions when compared to their SLR counterparts, and they’re a lot cheaper.
For family photos, it’s best to go with your everyday digital camera. Since megapixels hit the double-digits a while back, it’s easy enough to assume that whether or not you’re using the first one you found in the store or one you’ve research meticulously, the outcome will be the same. Not so – that photo of Uncle Ben playing Foxy Bingo is going to look significantly different if you’re using two models of camera. Colours, flash quality, stability and facial recognition features are all important for the perfect family snapshot.
Of course, if you’re more experienced you want to upgrade from your digital to something more professional, then an SLR might be just the ticket. Swish, capable of making photographs seem better simply by adding a high-quality lens, the SLR models really do pay for themselves if you’re moving into the professional field. Some photographers even own two or three for different purposes. Just make sure you’ve got your press badge on!?
