I saw some adorable table-top jelly bean topiaries at a dinner my daughters and I attended last month. As I was decorating my house for Easter this week, I thought of those topiaries and wondered if I could make a large topiary with plastic Easter Eggs.
I figured it was worth a try.
Here’s who my kids and I made our Easter Egg Topiary:
Easter Topiary Supplies:
- a bunch of plastic Easter eggs, various sizes (I used a little more than 2 of these bags, or about 45 eggs)
- a glue gun with plenty of extra glue sticks
- something to use as a base - I used a wire egg, about 4 inches tall, but a foam ball would work perfectly as well
- a nice, sturdy stick
- ribbon for a bow
- if you don’t have one already like me…. a big clay pot
Next, we started gluing plastic eggs all around the base. We started at the top and worked by “layers” around to the bottom. We would leave a nice big glob of hot glue on the end of an egg and then hold it in place until it felt secure on the base.
We simply fit eggs wherever we could, filling in empty spots with smaller eggs, until we reached the bottom.
With one last enormous glob of hot glue, we stuck the stick in the bottom of the egg base and then tied a large bow with lavender tulle.
That’s it!
Within 5 minutes of putting the Easter Egg topiary on our front porch, we had neighbor kids coming up to our door to ask about and admire the colorful decoration.

What a wonderful idea! A topiary can be made out of just about anything, you just have to be creative. This seems like a really great one to make with kids. I’ll have to remember it for next year, and maybe stock up on supplies during the clearance sales this year.

Thanks for the directions. I was wondering how you made the topiary. Now to see if I can get my daughter to help me with something like this. I bet it can work with almost any holiday with just a change of the eggs to fit the special day.
