Yesterday afternoon, my family dropped me off at the metro station near our house and I rode into DC for a 3-day Shot@Life Champions Summit. During the 10 minute drive to the metro station, we all listened to my youngest screaming, “Mom, you are NOT going anywhere!” “Mom, I don’t want you to go! Stay!”

Now, I haven’t been traveling much at all lately, so I really should be feeling guilty. But I’ve got to admit that leaving AJ while he was screaming for me to stay made me feel like a less than wonderful mom.

The evening’s amazingly inspiring and motivational sessions made me quickly forget my guilt. Until I went back up to my quiet, solitary hotel room and began thinking about my little boy (and the rest of the family) that I left behind for 3 days.

Why are moms so prone to guilt?

I decided to turn these feelings of mom guilt around and come up with a list of things moms should never feel guilty about…knowing full well that I have been guilty of most, if not all, of them at some point in my years as a mom.

10 things moms should not feel guilty about

  1. Sleeping
  2. Showering
  3. Not showering
  4. Making a less-than-gourmet dinner
  5. Having a less-than-clean house
  6. Going on a date with Dad
  7. Spending time alone
  8. Wishing they could spend time alone
  9. Wishing their kids would leave them alone
  10. Hiding all the good candy and snacks from the kids

And now…after a long, tiring day at Capitol Hill, I am going to watch some TV in bed. And wish I had some hidden candy to eat. Without guilt.
