Yesterday, I picked my two older girls and husband up from a four-day reenactment hike - Pioneer Trek - with the area’s church youth group. Yes, I got my teenage daughters to dress in long skirts and bonnets (ahem…I sewed the bonnets myself!), skip showering for several days, and walk for many, many miles pulling a heavy wooden handcart. They cooked all of their meals over a fire and slept without pillows under the stars.

And when I picked them up, they were smiling. Incredible.

Ok, that’s actually a kissy face.

Um…Twizzler was too young to go on Trek this time around, but he sure had fun picking the girls up and hugging as many stinky teens as he could…

Necco was leading the way with the boys. She’s a strong girl!

PS - my husband attended Pioneer Trek Thursday through Monday as a helper and had a blast as well.

Have you ever done anything like Trek?

This must be a real experience for the kids. Is this held every year?
Agree with that : “Your post can be wordless or wonderful, just as long as there’s a picture in it!”

Trek is held every four years, giving all the teens a chance to do it once while they’re in high school. :)

  7. A) We’re SO happy to have K back… D freaked when she saw her back this am!

    B) Joe just saw that they were on pavement and loudly exclaimed “lucky!” I imagine his Trek experience didn’t have that! ;) (And yes, I know they were probably off-roasting most of the way!)

Haha! Tell Joe that the picture walking on the gravel path was taken as they arrived back at base camp on day 3. :) No, I don’t think they had any pavement! And K was very happy to be back!!

Even though it was a long day for me to drive up there and back, it was SO worth it to see them coming home. I’m so proud of them for making it through all 3 1/2 days with good attitudes. :)
