Growing Pains?

5 November 2009 No Comment

No, I’m not referring to that endearing show from the 80′s….

Although right about now I might not mind watching an episode or two for the sake of nostalgia.

I am instead referring to my new domain name! I have taken away the blogspot address and replaced it with my new name: http://betterinbulk.net/. Please note that the dot com was not available, so I went instead for the dot NET. If you have 1momof5.blogspot saved, you will be automatically redirected to my new domain. But it never hurts to update the info.

I learned all I needed to know from my friend MamaKat in her post about her recent change to her own domain. She also shared this article about why you’d want to make the switch.

So far, I’ve noticed a couple of things. First, my followers widget disappeared. Not a big deal. I didn’t lose any followers. I just needed to update the widget.

Second, my blog roll disappeared. I was able to re-do that by adding people from my google reader and the blogs I am following. I was a little worried about that one until I saw how easy it was. I’m sure I missed a few blogs that used to be on my list. It’ll work itself out.

Third, the “insides” of my blog are super wacky. When I look at my layout, everything looks out of place. But so far, the blog itself appears normal. I will just avoid editing my layout since just looking at the wackiness makes me all panicky.

Fourth, and definitely most annoying to me, my disqus comments did not transfer. So I lost all of my beautiful comments. They are still stored at disqus, but they are no longer attached to the posts. So sad. New comments are safe. I will just miss seeing the old ones around.

I don’t know how this change to my own domain will effect my feeds, subscriptions, etc. At this point, everything looks like it transferred. Just be aware that weird things might still happen as the transfer is completed. Be patient with my growing pains!
